Sometimes websites just don’t load or behave strangely. Before reaching out for help, try the steps below — you might be able to fix it yourself and get back to what you were doing faster!
🔁 Step 0: Restart First
First things first — if you haven’t already, restart your computer. It sounds basic, but it really does solve a lot of problems.
After each step, try loading the website again before moving on to the next one.
🍪 Step 1: Clear the Website’s Cache and Cookies
For Chrome:
Open the website that’s not working.
Click the 🔒 padlock icon in the address bar (top left).
Select Site settings.
Click Clear data, then confirm by clicking Clear in the popup.
For Edge:
Paste this into your address bar:
edge://settings/privacy/cookies/AllCookies
Type the name of the problem website into the search box.
Find the site in the results, click the dropdown arrow, and then click the 🗑️ garbage can icons to delete all related cookies.
Make sure you remove all cookies for the site!
🕵️♂️ Step 2: Try Incognito Mode
Try opening the website in an incognito (Chrome) or InPrivate (Edge) window:
Click the menu button (usually three dots ... in the top right).
Choose New Incognito Window or InPrivate Window.
Type or paste the website URL and hit Enter.
If the website still doesn’t work in incognito, skip Step 3 and move on.
🧩 Step 3: Disable Browser Extensions
If the site does work in incognito mode, one of your browser extensions may be the culprit.
Here’s how to disable them:
Click the 🧩 Extensions icon in the top-right of your browser.
Select Manage extensions.
Turn off all your extensions using the toggles.
Try the site again — if it works, turn your extensions back on one by one to find the troublemaker.
🔄 Step 4: Try a Different Browser
Still having issues? Download and try a different browser, like Firefox or Chrome (if you're using Edge).
This helps determine if the problem is with your browser specifically.
🧰 Step 5: Now You Can Submit a Ticket
If the website still isn’t working, it’s time to submit an IT ticket! When you do, please include:
The name of the website
What problem you're seeing
Which steps you’ve tried from this list
Whether it worked in Incognito or a different browser
These details help us diagnose the issue more quickly!
